Charles Bridge, Prague by SeanDouglas Charles Bridge, Prague by SeanDouglas
More a cityscape than a landscape, but scenic nevertheless. This is the bridge started by Charles IV in 1357 to replace the older Judith Bridge.

The drawing was done from a photograph taken on my first trip in 94. I was there at about 8am in midwinter to get the bridge without people. The drawing took several months worth of work and lots of pencils.

This is really amazing.
I think that if the sky were shaded it would look better but still, it's a real piece of art :D

The sky that day was actually more or less white. A fog was just clearing and the sun was behind me so the sky was featureless anyway. I remember that day and it's never really occurred to me that it might look strange to others. Thanks for your thoughts and for the fave.

Actually it doens'nt seems strange, because I know how it is when in pictured the sky are just white and such... Anyway, I don't think it makes your drawing look bad or something.

This is stunning, its 'hyper-real'. It must have been nice to see the bridge completly empty. :D

Thanks very much and thanks for the faves. It was nice to see the bridge like this. I had to be up pretty early, but it was worth it.

This is absolutely wonderful! It could pass for a photo, the detail is that amazing; I can't find a single flaw.

I was born near Prague and lived there for most of my life, your drawing is one of the most gorgeous pieces of Charles Bridge realted artwork I've ever seen. This should be a DD at the very least.

Thank-you. My parents lived in Prague a couple of times and so I've visited several times. I love Prague and wanted to do justice to the drawings. In the original you can just see the Devil painting guy, the only person visible.

Thanks very much. This one took a bit over 100 hours over a period of about 8 months. It stood on an easel to be tinkered with whenever I had a few moments. Thank-you for the favourites.

Wow! I was frankly shocked and pleasantly surprised at this. I couldn't think of anything else like it, so citing a critique may be difficult! But this is simply beautiful. I think if the shading was darkened in places to represent a more dramatic time of day and a sky was added, this piece could sell for major money.
It's a very ambitious piece to take on and you aced it. I love the stone work on the bridge. That's breathtaking value. Just beautiful.

I think possibly my scan is a little flat (as in contrast), but not by much. As it is the darker bits have rendered 110gsm cartridge almost threadbare. After 7 months I wasn't keen to poke my pencil through the page in pursuit of a perfect black. I'm glad you've enjoyed it, thanks for your kind comments.
